Living in Sóller – A Lifestyle Guide to Dining, Exploring and embracing Mallorca’s Charm.

Sóller, often referred to as the “Golden Valley” of Mallorca, is one of the island’s most prestigious and sought-after areas. With its rich combination of fine dining, a charming harbour at Port de Sóller, luxury athletic clubs, and a variety of hiking trails, Sóller offers a lifestyle balancing relaxation and adventure

Historically, Sóller became prosperous due to its fertile land, particularly its abundant citrus groves, which are famous for their oranges. The town’s isolated location, surrounded by the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains, initially posed challenges for transport but also made its products highly sought after. By the 19th century, oranges from Sóller were shipped to France, and many locals returned wealthy, using their fortunes to build grand Modernista properties that define the town’s architectural character today. The region’s agricultural wealth, especially in olive and citrus cultivation, remains a significant part of its identity. The Sierra de Tramuntana landscape has been shaped by farmers tending to terraces of olive, citrus, and almond trees for centuries. Preserving this landscape is crucial for Mallorcan heritage, supported by local institutions like the Cooperativa Agrícola de Sóller, which ensures the continuation of these agricultural traditions.

Alongside its famous oranges, prawns and fish are also iconic symbols of Sóller, reflecting the town’s deep-rooted fishing heritage. The bustling port continues to be a key part of the local culture, where fresh seafood is a celebrated staple of the Mediterranean diet.
